JUBA – 10 December 2013 [Gurtong] – “The elections, come 2015 will be held,” Igga said in a press conference at the SPLM House in Juba.

The ruling party, SPLM postponed a National Liberation Council (NLC) meeting yesterday in which Igga said among several of the party issues on the agenda, will also discuss strategies for the elections.

Igga said the NLC was supposed to map out a way for registration of all parties that will participate in the elections.

President Salva Kiir last month also told public that the elections will be held as scheduled.

South Sudan is set to hold its first elections in 2015, a requirement by the country’s Transitional Constitution 2011.

After the country plunged into a hard economic path last year after the oil shutdown, unconfirmed reports said the elections would not be held based on the daunting challenges government is struggling with.
