Lou Mawien Community Forms Disaster Management Committee

Lou Mawien Community has formed a disaster management committee to monitor and address crises that may arise at the level of its Payam.

JUBA, 03 February 2014 [Gurtong] - Lou Mawien is a remote Dinka Community found in Alabek Payam in Tonj North County of Warrap State.

The community members said the committee known as Lou Mawien Crisis Management Committee (LMCMC) has a mission to create awareness and enlighten the community on the current security situation and resultant effects on the country and community.

The committee is made up of 11 members who would look for funds to address the crises in the area.

The Anti-government forces loyal to the former deputy President Dr. Riek Machar have already attacked area taking along thousand herds of cattle and leave behind people dead and many more wounded.
Officials in Warrap State have reported that the area was heavily attacked in the early morning of Friday on Jan 31st.

"Reading the mood and relating this to the general trend of the recent events in the national capital and elsewhere, our nation and communities are under existential threat. It is our noble duty to give them our maximum attention and ultimate protection," said John Angok Mawien, LMCMC’s chairman in Juba.

He asked the government to protect the vulnerable citizens. The Chairperson called upon the members of the community to contribute money and any necessary materials to help the wounded and war affected populace in the area.
