TORIT, 02 April 2015 [Gurtong] – The state Cabinet and Parliamentary Affairs, currently led by Hon. John Ochan Bongomin, is one of the newest Ministries being established by the state Governor, Lobong following the dissolution and restructuring of the state ministries and other institutions.

Mr. Abala, before he became a Special Advisor to Imehejek Administrative Areat, was a former DG in the state Public Service Ministry.

In a related development, the state Council of Ministers passed a draft amendment of the state constitution to extend the term of the Governor for three years in office.

The State Government Spokesperson, Hon. Mark Akio Ukinbul, says the move comes in line with the national Transitional Constitution, recently initiated by the national Cabinet.

The state ministers deliberated and eventually passed the draft which was yesterday presented by Cabinet and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ochan, to the state Parliament for immediate consideration and approval.

After the Wednesday's presentation, the Parliament, assigned the draft to a Committee of Legislation Affairs, for scrutiny which shall be re-tabled before the state Lawmakers for subsequent appropriate amendments.

As per the State Transitional Constitution in line with that of the national one, the tenure of office for both the state Governor and that of the state Lawmakers including the President plus national Parliament, clearly expires by 9 July, 2015, but the latest move serves to resolve ambiguity because already, the national Legislature did extend the term and has been assented by the President.
