JUBA, 3 April 2015 [Gurtong] – The newly formed leadership issued a press statement on the 2nd of April calling for the concerned authorities to reveal to the public where they are detaining the leader for the South Sudanese new political party.

"We as People's Liberal Party condemn the arbitrary arrest of our leader, Peter Mayen Majongdit who was picked by security agents on 1st April, 2015. Majongdit was picked up by two security agents from his home while he was with his family," said Mr. Mijok Lang Mijak, the PLP youth league chair.

Mijak said the whereabouts of the party's boss is unknown but suggested that he is being held somewhere and denied access to justice by the apparatus.

Mijak said that the detention of his boss is illegal and that South Sudan's constitution stipulates that no one should be arrested beyond 24 hours without being tried in a competent court of law.

Upon its formation few weeks ago, Mr. Majongdit who is a youthful politician assumed the leadership of the party.

Majongdit has been seen recently commenting in the media about political development in the country, an issue his group thinks might have angered the security agents of the regime.

"Majongdit's arrest, we believe is related to his March 30, interview published by the Juba Monitor newspaper in which he has implored the SPLM party leadership to fight against corruption," Mijak revealed.
