MTN Marks 10th Anniversary Of 21 Days Of Yellow Care

The Mobile Telephone Network, MTN Group in South Sudan on Monday commemorated its 10th Anniversary of the 21 days of yellow care reaching out to the city of Juba with cleanliness and support to schools.

JUBA, 07 June 2016 [Gurtong]: MTN Group, formerly known as M-Cell, is a South Africa based multinational mobile telecommunications company, operating in many African, European and Asian countries.

Its head office is in Johannesburg while in South Sudan; its main office is located at Hai Cinema. As of 30 September 2015, MTN recorded over 300 million subscribers across its operations.

MTN's South Sudan Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Philip Besiimire said during the commemoration day, South Sudan marked its 4th celebration of the 21 days of Yellow Care by cleaning roads, painting of Mayo Girls Primary School and its environs.

“21 days of yellow care is an initiative that is run across the entirely MTN Group foot print across all the 22 markets where we operate” said Mr. Philip.

“It’s the global initiative for us where, we as staff members each make an individual contribution towards the betterment of the community in which we live, operate and do business” he added.

Philip said, the initiative started 10 years ago describing it as an exciting milestone for the continuous growths and bounce of what he calls the simple noble calls.

“If you look across the groups in all the countries Cameroon, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Uganda, Rwanda amongst others. Today [Monday] as we started this month, there are various initiatives going around being done by staffs” he noted.

He said, “Of importance, we are trying to focus on education especially if we can bring technology to education in terms of using technology and digital tools in many of the countries and other things within the school environment.”

“We previously did computer laboratory here and it’s an initiatives we want to continue doing in future” he said.

Gurtong witnessed the cleanliness on the streets of Juba along Hai Cinema road, where the mobile operator swept the street and continued to Hai Mayo Primary School where they did cleanliness and painting of the building.

“For us, this year in South Sudan we want to improve on the environment in which we operate by starting with cleanliness and that is why we started it with cleanliness that is why we started today with cleaning your environment project” Philip said.

“As part of the group, it is in-build in our budget system to always contribute to the society, community. Beyond 21 days of yellow care, you will see other social responsibilities initiatives”

The CEO said that MTN South Sudan, goal is to set an example to other companies to participate in communities.
