JUBA, 21 June 2016 [Gurtong] – "The Troika wishes to clarify that the allegation of having sent a letter demanding changes to Government positions is false."
Media reports earlier indicated that the Troika, which includes the US, the UK, the Netherlands, Norway, Canada, Denmark and Sweden had asked the interim government to fire the Minister of Finance, David Deng Athorbei and of Central Bank Governor Kornelio Koryom Mayiik if they want the west to finance TGoNU.
In its statement dated June 21, 2016, the Troika announced its continuous commitment in supporting South Sudan.
"The Troika and its partners remain committed to working with the Transitional Government of National Unity, and all its Ministers, to ensure a coherent approach to the economic challenges faced by South Sudan."
The Troika reacted to false reports that it had sent the letter to the South Sudan's TGoNU leadership to drop some particular appointed South Sudanese officials in the government to allow effective and efficient implementation of the transitional period of peace.
