JUBA 18 July 2016 [Gurtong]- Hon. Aldo Ajou Deng, Head of Human Rights specialized Committee said that the best choice for South Sudan people is to implement the current fragile peace agreement for the resolution of conflict in South Sudan (ARCISS) adding that any resumption of conflict in the country won’t be of the nation’s interest.
Ajou said that President Salva Kiir and Dr Riek Machar should not depend on United Nations and other foreign formulas for bringing and maintaining peace in South Sudan.
Ajou added that the continuation to implement the ARCISS peace deal will save lives of South Sudanese and give chance for the country to re-establish itself allowing development to return with hopes of services delivery resumption to the people.
Fighting between forces of Dr Riek Machar and those of President Kiir begun on July 7 resulting into a fierce war in Juba that have made South Sudan’s First Vice President, Dr Machar to flee to an unknown hideout.
President Kiir last Friday appealed for Machar’s return, however, Mr. Machar said he would return only when a third neutral IGAD’s army is in place to create a buffer zone between the two South Sudanese rival forces, a request that Mr. Kiir rebutted.
Hon Mary Ayen Mijok, Head of Gender, Peace and Reconciliation Committee in the Council Of States urged South Sudanese to get united and begin to preach for peace among themselves in order to translate the August 2015 peace deal into realities.
