BOR, 16 August 2016 [Gurtong]-The items include fresh and dry fish in Marol and Bor market respectively. The provisional order No. 02 also calls for the immediate reduction in the prices of both fresh and dry beef and goat meat as well.
According to the order, 1 kg of fresh fish will cost 10 SSP and 30 SSP for dry fish in Bor Fish Market. The Mayor of Bor municipal council, Prof. Akim Ajieth Buuny while speaking to the media urged both the consumers and the sellers to abide by the order.Akim warned that action will be taken against anyone who defies the articulated price guide in the market.
The move however has drawn mixed reactions from both the consumers and sellers in Jonglei State. Ayen Deng who is a restaurant owner welcomes the move taken by the municipality but laments the tremendous lose it may cost her in case the suppliers refuse to supply them with fresh fish. She urged the authority of Bor municipality to revise the order. Section 57/A of the local government Act grants the Mayor with powers to enact legislation in absence of a legislative council or else when on recess.
