Charcoal Suppliers In Bor Cease Operations

Suppliers of charcoal in Bor have ceased operations following last month’s orders by the State government reducing the prices of locally produced goods in the State.

BOR, 19 August 2016 [Gurtong] –  While speaking to Gurtong on Thursday at Marol market, a resident of Bor, Alier Ghai said the local people have been affected as majority of the people use charcoal in their homes and hotels.

“The order by the authority was a good movebecause it is helpful to vulnerable groups but the suppliers ofcharcoal have rejected it”, he said. He urged both the authority and suppliers to immediately intervene andrescue the situation in the State.

The situation has prompted the suppliers now to sell charcoal atnight in remote areas at a cost of 450 SSP per bag.

There has been luck of charcoal in Bor town since the order came into effect a month ago. According to the order, a sack of charcoal was reduced from itsprevious price of 250 SSP to 150 SSP only.

The penalty stated that whoever disobeys the order shall be liable fora fine or imprisonment.
