WAU, 27 August 2016 [Gurtong] - The order issued by the Mayor reduced the price of a kg of meat from 200 South Sudanese Pounds to 75 pounds per kilo.
The order also stated that anyone who refuses to comply will be forced to close down business. The meat sellers say that the order does not favour them as they will go at a loss If they follow the newly introduced prices by the Mayor.
“We will not open unless the mayor reverses his decision with a pricethat would favour us,” said one of the businessmen identified as Mohamed Ibrahim.
“Resorting to close down meat places in the town is our response,” he said. The meat sellers say buying a cow in the market cost them way much for them to sell at a lower price that will not benefit them.
Last week, the town Mayor, Ako lAkol said anyone found violating the order will bearrest for a period of one month in jail and fined 1000SSP.
