RUMBEK, 29 August 2016 [Gurtong] - In an interview with Gurtong, Moses Ater Maker, a driver of commercial vehicles between Rumbek capital and Rumbek East County said that the only destination for dropping passengers travelling to Rumbek East is Tigic near Panawac as the whole part of Rumbek East County up to Bhar Naam Bridge is flooded.
He added that passengers are forced to move on foot for almost an hour and a half crossing to Aduel the County headquarters.
“No car can pass. Even military cannot go past that flood, there is too much flooding and there are many deep holes on the way. The government of the State would have made this road a priority before other things by repairing the bridges for water passage because now the water has covered the whole road.”
An Oxfam land cruiser that was trying to cross the bridge unfortunately got stuck. NGOs in Western Lakes State have also threatened to stop operations should the floods continue.
