MAJAK-AKOON, 18 October 2016 [Gurtong] -William Ater Lual during an address at the Gordhiim Catholic church during the feast of St. Daniel Comboni on Sunday issued the verbal warning to the teachers to stop abusing their powers.
“The National Ministry of General Education has passed an Act which needs everyone to respect otherwise you face the law and definitely one who commits a crime will be out of the system of education after serving their punishment” he said.
He also reiterated that cultures and beliefs that prevent girls from going to school must be stopped.
He urged all parents to ensure that their children be sent to school irrespective of gender.
“Cultural practices and beliefs in which a girl child is seen as a source of income and wealth in our communities should cease immediately. These beliefs and practices are manifested by early marriage and forced marriages leading to dropping out of many girls. It is the greatest contributing factor to hindrance to girl child education in Aweil East State” he said.
The Minister also said that this year marks the end of the Sudan syllabus in the country and that those sitting for their Sudan school certificate will do them at the embassy of Sudan in Juba or in Khartoum.
