RUMBEK, 17 November 2016 [Gurtong]-Speaking during the launch, the Director General of Western Lakes State Ministry of Health, Dr. Michael Mading said the vaccination is part of a continuous nationwide fight against polio for the last 8 years.
Dr. Michael Mading urged authorities of the 3 States of defunct Lakes State to cooperate with vaccinators so that the campaign reaches all the areas being targeted.
“This vaccination campaign program is targeting a big number of children and it is a very big task that needs leaders of the 3 States and citizens to make sure that these large numbers of children are vaccinated from Polio in their villages.”
The State Director of EPI, Dr Simon Makoi Maker said that children will receive the Polio vaccines and vitamin A and Ambanazoles supplements.
Dr. Makoi Maker explained that the Vitamin A will prevent blindness while Ambanzoles tablets will be given to the children for deworming.
UNICEF representative, Emmanuel Gai Mabor urged both the EPI State Director and his team in the State to take advantage of vaccinating the children during the dry season and to cover areas that are not reachable during the wet season.
Gai also urged parents in the State to make use of the immunization services in the health centers instead of waiting for national vaccination of children across the country.
“It is significant that we must reach all the children which are targeted and we need to go beyond the target.”
The Polio immunization campaign will run for 4 days and another round will take place in December.
