RUMBEK, 09 February 2017 [Gurtong]-Rumbek team won the cup against Awiel by 2-0 on Sunday in Juba.
Speaking during the celebrations at Rumbek Freedom Square, the Governor of Western Lakes State, Abraham Makoi Bol Kodi urged the people of Lakes State particularly the youth to embrace peace and unity.
“The team that won the victory of the national peace and unity cup among all the States that participated in the national peace and unity Cup were selected from different backgrounds and not from particular ethnic groups, some are from Gok , Eastern and Western Lakes States and they all participated under the unifying name “Rumbek” said the Governor, Abraham Makoi.
Governor Makoi urged the Rumbek football association chairperson to use sports as an opportunity to bring the Gelwong youth to participate and join sports events in Rumbek for the sake of development.
“I have been monitoring the sports event in Juba on radios until Rumbek concluded it with the victory against Awiel on Sunday thanks to our team,” said the Governor.
The speaker of Western Lakes State legislative assembly, Marik Nanga Marik urged the Governor of Western Lakes State to support sports activities for the Youth.
“Our youth have potential and ability and that is why they have won the national peace and unity cup in Juba but we must give them support to develop their potential”, said the Speaker of Western Lakes State , Marik Nanga.
The chairperson of Rumbek football association, Ater Deng Mabok welcomed the 2017 national peace and unity cup victory in Rumbek.
“It is hard to maintain being a winner all the time but let us work hard and try to maintain the cup after the next 3 years when we go again for the competition,” said Ater Deng Mabok.
