UNMISS Organizes Training For MPs, CSOs And Media In Rumbek
Western Lakes State members of parliament , civil society organizations and the media concluded last Friday a 2-day induction and capacity building training on democracy ,governance, accountability and conflict management and mitigation strategies .

RUMBEK, 27 February 2017 [Gurtong]-The 2-day workshop was organized and facilitated by UNMISS office of the State Coordinator.
The Deputy Governor of Western Lake State, Lois Agum Ruben said the forum will resolve many challenges and strengthen competency of State MPs and civil society organizations.
The UNMISS head of field office in Rumbek, Kwame Dwamena Aboagye who was the facilitator of the training urged all the participants during the closing remarks that it is the responsibility of the international community to make sure that UNMISS creates a democratic society in the country.
He thanked the MPS, CSOs and media groups for their active participation and presentation during the training which was held in Hill View Hotel.
The Speaker of Western Lakes State legislative Assembly, Marik Nanga Marik thanked UNMISS- for the capacity building they offered to MPs and the civil society organizations on the rule of law, accountability, democracy and the relationship between the legislature and executive.
“This training is important because it has made us learn and share knowledge and ideas among ourselves and this has been my expectation to have such capacity building for the MPs.”
“The reasons for the capacity building are for the members of parliament to perform his work effectively and efficiently as they are now being sharpened. Whether you are an MP, civil society organization, teacher or media we are doing one thing which is delivery of services to our people in South Sudan,”said Marik Nanga.
The workshop training which was attended by over 40 participants came up with the following recommendations.
1- Workshop between Media, CSOs, executive and legislature
2- Workshop on separation of powers between the executive and legislature.
3- Civil society organization to be included in the assembly specialize committees.
4- Media to disseminate peace messages and host programs related to democracy and rule of law.
