YEI, 09 March 2018 [Gurtong]- Minister Lona Sadia told Gurtong in a statement that, both primary and secondary schools have resumed teaching since late last month.

“We all know the importance of education and for us to fight illiteracy, poverty and struggle for better development of this nation, therefore it’s high time for all parents and guardians to send their children to school because they are the future leaders and developers of this country once they are educated” she said.

Sadia revealed that teachers are ready in the schools to offer knowledge to the school pupils and students.

“Our teachers in the State are committed to their duties despite the delay and little pay.  However we are working hard to meet all their needs that is why we are calling on all parents to send learners to their schools” Sadia added.

The Minister also revealed that her ministry has recently launched a five year strategic education plan aimed at raising resources, expand on infrastructure, train enough teachers, increase learners enrollment, inclusive education for all and develop new strategies to motivate teachers so as to boost and improve the quality of education in the State.

“I am also happy to tell you that we are working day and night together with our education partners so that we can bring education services closer to the learners and improve the quality of education in all the thirteen Counties of the State”

She revealed that the school enrollment in Yei County alone has doubled this year compared to that of last year. She said this came as a result of re-opening of some of the feeder roads by the warring parties to the conflict.

“It’s still our humble call to the warring parties to allow the children access education without security threats because the future of this nation lies in the hands of the young generation.”
