Wau State Government Forms Verification Committee For New Counties

The Minister of Law Enforcement Agencies and Parliamentary Affairs in Wau State said the State government has formed three committees to arrange the formation and identify new administrative units.

WAU, 22 March 2018 [Gurtong] - Last week, the council of States announced an additional three Counties in Wau State adding the total number of Counties to 11.

The new Counties are Wan-Bai, Alel-Thony and Alur, a former SPLA garrison town in Greater Bahr el Ghazal region during the past 21 years of war with Sudan.

Alur, a popular area known as Mapel was among the Counties approved in Western Bahr el Ghazal State by President Salva Kiir Mayardit before the division of ten States into 32 States.
Alur is located in the Eastern part of the State boarding Tonj State in the East and former Western Equatoria State in Southwest and former Lakes State.

According to the Minister Arkangelo Anyar Anyar, he was instructed by the State Governor to implement the instruction.

Speaking to Gurtong on Thursday, Wau State Minister for Local Government and Law Enforcement Agencies said the three Counties have been approved by the Council of State and that procedures to appoint their Commissioners are underway due to a consultation going on with the local communities on the grounds.

 “I have received instructions from his Excellency the Governor through a written document on the resolution of Council of States for the creation of the three Counties in Wau State namely, Wan-Bai County and then we have also Alel-Thony County and again we have Alur County.

These are the three created Counties through a resolution made by the Council of States,” said Anyar.
