South Sudan’s Army Chief Dies In Cairo

South Sudan's Army Chief of General Staff, General James Ajongo Mawut has today morning passed on in Cairo, Egypt after battling an illness.

JUBA, 29 April 2018 [Gurtong]- The government of South Sudan has declared three days of official mourning and ordered all South Sudanese flags to be flown at half-mast.

President Salva Kiir in a statement issued today said The late will be accorded a State funeral with all honours befitting of his status.

He also thanked the government of Egypt as a whole and the military for the unwavering support and care for the late General.

“As the passing of General James Ajongo, shall leave a void, we will always remember his life and legacy and take comfort in knowing that his soul is resting in eternal peace,” said President Kiir in his statement.

Details of funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
