Nine Chiefs Sworn In, In Marial-Bai County

Marial- Bai County in Wau State on Wednesday swore in 9 additional Chiefs for the 9 Payams in the County.

The new traditional chiefs are, Chief Longar Majok Majok of Marial-bai centre, Peter Manyol Ngong of Majuac, Bol Ngor Dut of Madhuc C, Tek Anyar Akok of Thulo, Bol Manyuat Buor of Madhuk N, Majok Lual Wol of Kuol-Koth, Ngor Mayen Apinyi of Nywala X, Mel Akuei Mel of War-Akuac and Sajig Wol Makuac of Amothyic.

They are meant to work towards, collection of government taxes, resolving inter-communal conflicts including issues of cattle raiding, reuniting the community and other minor cases affecting the community.

Addressing the occasion in Marial-Bai County on Wednesday, the Director General in the Ministry of Local Government and Law Enforcement agencies in Wau State, Pasco Pasquale Ulau said the local chiefs are to fulfil the work expected or face dismissal should they fail.

 “The criminal cases are not the mandate of the chiefs to do, the mandate is to resolve the problem of the community, secondly to collect taxes from the civilians for the government,” he said.

“We have given you one month so that we confirm your leadership by receiving from you the full taxes,” he said.

On his part, Marial-Bai County Commissioner, Santino Manut Akec urged the traditional leaders to promote peace with the neighbouring ethnic tribes of the feritits in Bagari and Besilia Counties.

The commissioner also urged the traditional chiefs to promote respect and distance themselves from politics.
