UNMISS Hands Over Completed Wau Radio Station To State Government

United Nations Mission in South Sudan on Wednesday handed over a fully completed installed solar panel system of radio station to the State government.

The over 40,000 U.S dollar project which started in August this year was implemented by the Civil Society Organization (CEPO).

Speaking during the handing over project to the State government, CEPO, the Implementing project organization said State government and the citizens will benefit from the project through the government sharing information of peace with the citizens.

CEPO State Coordinator, Stephen Robo said Wau Radio now will be used to create peace awareness messages to the citizens and the Internally displaced Persons for their safety voluntary return to their homes after last week’s signing of the peace agreement.

“This project is one of the main projects that CEPO is implementing in Wau State. Today we are handing over one of the important projects that is rehabilitation and installation of solar system in the radio station within the ministry of information. CEPO with support from UNMISS has purchased one solar system comprising of 28 solar panels, two inverters, two chargers, 26 batteries, 25 mounting frames and a voice recorder for the radio. The system was installed in two rooms, that is to say, the production and transmission room,” he said.

“The total amount for this project is 42,100 U.S.D. This project aims to promote freedom of expression, peace and building and confidence between IDPs and government for voluntary return, to facilitate the discussion and dialogue around voluntary safe and dignified return of IDPs,” said Robo.

The State Information Minister, Nema Abass welcomed the project by the UNMISS through CEPO.

 “We as the State government, we thank all organizations, particularly CEPO for implementing the programme of renovating the radio station and the help from the office of Human Right UNMISS in Wau State,” said Abass.
