Kiir Warns Oppositions Off New Recruitments

"He said the agreement is clear that no one from all sides should recruit more forces after signing the agreement."

By James Deng Dimo

Wau, 06, March 2019 [GURTONG] - President Kiir warns the opposition parties that signed the Revitalize Peace Agreement with him last year to stop recruitment and occupation of areas which were not under their control during the conflict.

Addressing thousands of people at Wau Stadium on Tuesday, Kiir said such moves are a violation of the agreement and may return the country back to conflict.

He said the agreement is clear that no one from all sides should recruit more forces after signing the agreement.

“The Oppositions are still doing things they want to do: they want to continue making recruitments and they want to occupy places which were not under their control during the conflict,” he said.

“These two things are violations of the agreement. The agreement said clearly that ‘No one from all sides that signed the agreement to make recruitment to have additional forces’. No, instate the opposition forces they already have should be taken to the cantonment areas.

“If there are members of the opposition with us here at the stadium, let them understand that continued recruitment and occupation of areas which were not under their control during the conflict are violations of the agreement and may take people back to war”, he concluded.
