We Need Genuinely Humble Leaders In South Sudan

"Humbleness is the one big missing quality in South Sudanese leadership: to be genuinely humble in the service of their people."

By Jacob J Akol

That picture of the Pope kissing the feet of South Sudanese leaders should be enlarged and posted everywhere in Juba and elsewhere in South Sudan.

Humbleness is the one big missing quality in South Sudanese leadership: to be genuinely humble in the service of their people. These must include the ability to commit themselves to step down voluntarily, following a democratic election of fresh leaders.

These leaders have done their best, both positively and negatively. The longer they stay on beyond the interim period the more the negative of their contribution to the country and to themselves.

I am not a politician, just a citizen.
