In Appreciation Of Prof John Akec, University Of Juba

"Learn to distill issues and define problems with intellectual discretion and precision. A learned guy doesn't fight with a shadow of an elephant. She bravely confronts the real animal".

By Deng Choldit,

Prof. John Akec Apuruot of the University of Juba is an epitome of patriotism and hard work. Don't spoil his self-built reputation. The students' misdirected anger shows the level of narrow mindedness with some of them. If you are annoyed, storm the national Parliament.

If it were not Akec's sacrifice, commitment, determination, hard work, zeal and love for one's nation, who would be studying in that institution?

You are running into a man who doesn't sleep to ensure you receive your lectures delivered by lecturers who don't get pay timely. I wasn't amused when I saw students holding banners with writings, 'Akec must resign'! what some students did by calling on Akec to resign was disrespectful and should be treated with the contempt it deserves.

If you are rehearsing for something bigger than that, we could give you a benefit of doubt otherwise, the whole scenario was ungrateful and humiliating. And such a anger mustn't have been directed at a wrong and innocent target.

Learn to distill issues and define problems with intellectual discretion and precision. A learned guy doesn't fight with a shadow of an elephant. She bravely confronts the real animal.

Akec is one man who has tried his best to ensure the country's learning institution is moving despite a mosaic of challenges ranging from lack of funding to low payments for lecturers.

'God helps a man who endeavours to help himself' . Akec has done his part. And it was your turn as learners in a failed state to understand that and cooperate. You are being requested to meet your obligations and that shouldn't be a problem of your school management.

Sit and think over how to raise the money with friends, family and well wishers other than running around trying to show the world that you could be angrier when asked to meet the cost of your education.

If a university student can not appreciate a hard worker like Akec, what is the essence of learning? Why are you wasting your time at the University when you know any knowledge you gain wouldn't be used to liberate yourself from primitive ideologies and cultural rigidities?

If you destroy the little hope there is, it is you and you alone who shall regret the results of reckless attitude and utter ignorance. Storm the national Parliament to increase and maintain the Teacher's salary if you are men enough... Don't spoil my Monday evening please!
